How to bid on Canadian federal government contracts
Finding a government contract is only the first step. To bid, you need to confirm the requirements, follow the tender's designated submission process and submit before the official deadline. This guide focuses on federal opportunities.

1. Find an opportunity that fits
Search current federal notices on CanadaBuys or use Soubby Contract Intelligence to discover and save relevant opportunities. Soubby is an independent research and tracking tool, not a government bidding portal.
Start with tenders where your company can genuinely perform the work. Note the buyer, location, contract scope, closing time and any mandatory eligibility restrictions.
2. Read the official solicitation
- Open the official notice and read the solicitation documents and all amendments.
- Check mandatory qualifications, security, insurance, experience, product specifications and submission format.
- Look for question deadlines and instructions for contacting the contracting authority.
- Check the closing time and time zone on the official notice; do not rely on an imported summary alone.
3. Register on the required supplier platform
Some federal tender notices lead to CanadaBuys / SAP Business Network (Ariba) and may require a supplier account before you can respond. Other buyers or notices may specify a different method. Follow the instructions on that specific tender.
If you need help navigating federal procurement or supplier registration, Procurement Assistance Canada provides official government guidance. Do not share a procurement-platform password with Soubby or any third-party tender tracker.
4. Prepare and submit your response
- Use the exact response documents, format and submission channel stated by the buyer.
- Answer every mandatory criterion and attach required evidence before the deadline.
- Allow time for uploads, account issues and corrections; late bids may not be accepted.
- Submit through the issuing organization's designated portal or method, and check for a submission acknowledgment.
5. Keep tracking changes
Monitor the official event or notice for amendments and buyer messages before closing. Keep your checklist, working documents and deadlines together, and retain your own copy of the final response and any official confirmation.
Soubby can help you find and track federal tender opportunities, but it does not receive, transmit or submit bids.
